The Battles Men Fight Alone
The battles men fight alone will kill them or reveal a warrior's soul.
Aurelius Kadzius
These battles that we will reference will not be of fighting a great foe or charging the light brigade of the three hundred, with cannons to the left and cannons to the right.
The battles are "smaller" but vicious. The struggle of asking for forgiveness when you have done wrong. To genuinely praise a man's success and not lean into envy with a bitter mouth and salty eyes.
To help without the plan to leverage the need for your help. To work alongside men without manipulating them. To forgive when it is most difficult. Not succumbing to the small pleasures of daily life that can get out of control when not keeping a critical eye on them. Things like food, drink, sex, and money, and ego.
These things can devour a man's energy from good movement, leave him static without growth or movement, displace him, and disconnect him from what is good, simple, and true.
All things can become vices; when men lose control of these things, it is the high and comfort they provide, usually during times of chaos in our lives, a significant loss or sorrow. I am susceptible to them all, and the battle continues, and we fight the good fight.
