The best jobs I ever had were as a Marine and on security teams for maritime operations through pirate waters. In both lines of work, the mission and purpose were crystal clear. 

Kill the enemy trying to kill you, good. If the enemy kills you or anyone beside you, bad. The unmistakable outline of what is a good outcome and what is a bad outcome was always evident.

When it was time to leave the FOB, or head out to sea, there was where it was lurking, the unknown, the uncertainty.
