The Horror of Uncertainty
Smile; you may yet have the opportunity to face the ego-shattering horror of uncertainty.
Aurelius
Shattering the ego will occur naturally while pursuing mastery in any form. When the ego can no longer be controlled while on your journey to create something worthy of mastery or greatness, we will face uncertainty. Then it will be shattered.
You will be humbled, so don’t eradicate your ego. It does serve a purpose. My ego exists, and I beat it into submission; however, this destructive process leaves me with no desire to win in anything ever. Where is my desire to fight back against anything?
To master nothing, not practice for the sake of practicing, honing my skills to defeat no one, not even myself? Why master any skills if I can just be average or relatively weak and unskilled? No ego will be involved in that. Just do enough to squeak by in everything.
Its destruction doesn’t drive me to the unknown; it drives me to stay and be the room-temperature tap water that is pleasant to all. Not too hot, not too cold, agreeable, easily accepted, and forgotten.
To move through life like lukewarm water, moving at a mild pressure, which is fine if winning in a man’s life was to be the most pleasant,
non-confrontational man that ever lived. That is not winning in any fashion. Ego is not the enemy; not controlling it is.
