Seen vs Done

It is one thing to have seen and read how it’s done versus having done it.

Aurelius Kadzius

Knowledge gained through reading and observation is not worth less. However, the details of a process will be lost until a man gains practical knowledge.

By practical, I mean hands-on experience.

You are planning to hit on a Brinks truck.

Who are you taking with you?

You need eight guys to make it work,

There is one primary driver and a secondary, one Assault man and one DDM. Four guys are left for crowd control, and two will move the bags. That should be eight altogether.

Now, the positions are laid out.

Who are you taking?

The guys that love the movies “Heat” and “The Town”?

The ones that play COD and paintballers, nothing else?

Side Note: Paintball is fun as hell. Also, you get the point.

You will want the guys who have done raids, crowd control, used lethal force, and who have experience working in a tight team or squad environment with life, limb, and freedom at stake.

When the rubber meets the road, and your life is on the line, you will look for the guys with actual live training and experience in that particular role.

Some things are trade secrets that will not reveal themselves until you have faced the set of problems in real time because the solution in the book or on YouTube won’t cut it.

This is a goon-like example, but it fits many molds for teams of all kinds, from business to sport to creative teams. Experience doing the actual work in real-time is worth its weight in gold.
