Men will confuse confidence with ego and ego with confidence
Men will confuse confidence with ego and ego with confidence.
One is driven by the need to be perceived as being better than we are by our peers. In contrast, confidence is tested and proven by experience; losses and wins, failures and success build confidence.
Our egos are never defeated; the moment you start to say you have conquered your ego, you have not. It is a battle we will fight for all time. It is phrases like, "no paint baller could outshoot me, I won't tap to a lower belt, I won't tap to that, she couldn't outshoot me on the range. It creeps up in subtle ways, too; these are pretty obvious examples.
At any time you begin a thought or a sentence where you are above someone or something, a task that's your ego creeping up. It is good to know how to identify it because we all have an ego in various places in our lives. In some areas, the ego gets chin checked regularly, and in other places, it runs wild until it does get called out or you put it in its place.
Know where your ego hides and where confidence and ego are different from one another. It will be a lifelong battle to be in control of it. It comes down to knowing yourself deeply and being fiercely honest along with it.
