Exploring the darkness is not the same as dwelling in it. Traveling through it like a surveyor and discovering how vicious you can be is good. Men can kill or become animals with the whites of their eyes removed. No light, no reflection. Two marbles of stone swallow anything good that is shown to them. 

Shining a light on your darkness means revealing it to yourself and knowing you are savage. Understand this. Cowards can be savages. It is in our nature to rebel, to fight to resist. It doesn't even matter if it is good for you or not. Rebellion against the light or dark, order or chaos, comes down to a choice. Choose wisely.
